This strange Appalachian fruit helps a young woman find her way. Paw paws grow wild in the woods of Southeastern Ohio and the area beyond. They come into season for only a couple of weeks in September. The fruit tastes like Wrigley's Juicy Fruit Chewing Gum and the song, "Picking up the paw paws and putting 'em in your pocket," is a children's game that has been played for generations during this harvest.
